Getting Started - Tournament Blackjack Strategy
Strategy is key when playing Tournament Blackjack at Doyles Casino and you must remember that having a good strategy can significantly enhance your chances of winning at the tables.

Tournament Blackjack, whether you are playing Single Tournaments or Multi Tournaments, is all about risk. Strategy is very important therefore, in order to manage the risks involved. Good Risk Management is needed therefore in order to calculate the reward on offer –and that’s going to help you make some big decisions at some key tournament moments!
Because you are still trying to beat the dealer when playing Tournament Blackjack, it is important to factor in how your opponents are playing. For example, if a dealer gets Blackjack, it is highly likely that all of you will lose to it, not just you. So are your opponents playing tight? Are they playing to basic strategy? Are they being wild in the cards they are hitting? You should try and weigh up these factors when playing tournament blackjack, as it will determine your play too.
You should therefore have a game plan that considers the following...
- Decide on your basic strategy – caution, neutral or aggressive
- Use risk management techniques – will the risk here pay, or is it too much to ask, for little reward?
- Appreciate that there are similar outcomes, whereby you can ALL win the hand, or ALL lose it.
The old school approach of conservative betting may be a good play for some and betting small in the beginning is a sure fire way of maintaining your chip pile and getting to the final rounds. Others believe the only way to succeed is to bet big in these tournaments and accumulate a stockpile of chips, making it hard for your opponents to catch up. Although the latter works, the player often busts and is eliminated early.
